Anubis – the Egyptian god of the afterlife – made a rather surprising appearance in London on July 17, 2024.

Busy London commuters were stopped dead in their tracks as three versions of the deity walked the mortal realm.

No, the jackal-headed god did not confuse the British capital for the afterlife. Rather, the trio marching the streets of London were an amusing ploy by low-cost carrier easyJet to promote its newly launched routes to Luxor from Gatwick. The twice weekly route will take tourists to the Egyptian city, home to Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and the tomb of Tutankhamun – one of the most famous pharaohs in history.

“It’s not every day you come face to face with Egyptian Gods – especially in central London, so it was great to see people’s reactions,” said easyJet Holidays chief commercial officer Paul Bixby.

The flights will launch on November 11.
