From January 2025, business class passengers travelling on Brussels Airlines’ long-haul flights will be able to enjoy a new gastronomic experience.

What started more than ten years ago with gourmet menus by Michelin-starred chef Geert Van Hecke has grown into a tradition for travellers on intercontinental flights with Brussels Airlines as a “Belgian Star Chef” is invited to create a three-course menu based on typically Belgian recipes and ingredients.

A brand-new menu has been curated by Michelin-starred chef Arabelle Meirlaen, of the eponymous restaurant in Marchin, Belgium. She becomes the 15th Michelin-starred chef, in a series of Belgian chefs, with whom the airline has worked with since 2013.

Meirlaen began her culinary career in January 1999 at the ‘Grand Place’ of Huy in the small restaurant ‘Li Cwerneu’. In September 2013, with her partner Pierre Thirifays, she moved the restaurant to their bright house in Marchin.

Meirlaen was also the first woman to be voted chef of the year in 2014 by French restaurant guide Gault&Millau.

Philip Mortier, inflight product manager at Brussels Airlines commented: “Brussels Airlines is proud to be Belgium’s flying ambassador, showcasing the best our country has to offer. Onboard, we bring passengers the flavours of Belgium through carefully crafted cuisine.”

“Starting this January, new seasonal menus will rotate every three months. Passengers will also enjoy a selection of regional beers, including a special seasonal brew ‘Arabelle’ created by our star chef herself,” he added.

In addition to her one star, Meirlaen has also earned the Michelin “Green Star”, which recognises chefs who champion sustainability through resource preservation, biodiversity, reducing food waste, and reducing the reliance on non-renewable energy.

“It’s my heartfelt wish that every Brussels Airlines guest experiences that as well. Becoming part of the airline’s prestigious tradition of star chefs isn’t just an honour – it’s the fulfilment of a personal dream. I’m thrilled to share this journey and my passion with travellers from around the world,” noted Meirlaen.
