Fundraising by staff and passengers at Dublin Airport raised €390,000 for three Irish charities in 2022, the airport authority announced on January 26.
The money was split three ways between St. Francis Hospice, The Mater Foundation and Feed Our Homeless, and represented the latest disbursement of over €3.4 million raised by airport workers since 2007.
The daa [the airport authority] team takes huge pride in the Charity of the Year initiative and we are extremely proud to be handing over such a substantial amount to our three very-deserving charities,” said Brian Drain, chief people officer.
Fintan Fegan, chief executive of St Francis Hospice, said the gift was “one of the largest ever received” by the centre and would be used toward the building of a new hospice in Raheny in the north of Dublin.
Mater Foundation chief executive Mary Moorehead said the donation would make “a huge difference to our patients and staff “at the Mater, one of Ireland’s biggest hospitals
“Feed Our Homeless is only six years old, so this money will make a massive difference for the service we provide. Our services are focused on three areas: the prevention of homelessness, intervention and the exit aspect,” said Natasha Morgan, co-founder.
In 2023, fundraising will be for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Ronald McDonald House and Cork Life Centre, the daa said.
