Almost as soon as the teams had traipsed off the pitches in what were effectively the semi-finals of the American Football season, Southwest Airlines had added extra flights to its home city of Phoenix, which on February 12 will host the 2023 Superbowl, the showpiece final.
The extra capacity for the weekend from February 10-15 and is to facilitate travel for tens of thousands of supporters of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles and was announced after the two teams saw off the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers on January 29.
“For football fans travelling while the action is being played out on the gridiron on Feb. 12, 2023, they can watch all the action onboard with live TV* on FOX by connecting to the Southwest Inflight Entertainment Portal,” Southwest said.
The announcement came after the carrier in January late reported quarterly loss of over $220 million, caused mainly by its cancelling of around 16,700 flights in late December.
